Windlass Gypsy Bush Failure

Client informed that vessel could not undertake US river passage as one anchor was unusable due to gypsy bush damage.

Client's intention was to take vessel and perform repairs alongside at lay-by berth with a tug escort.

Our specialists / experts visited vessel and determined that the anchoring equipment could be used safely with limitation of walking back the anchor and restricting let-go only for emergency.

In view that the cargo permitted hot work to be done safely, it was recommended to undertake the repairs enroute during loaded passage using our expertise for such jobs, thus minimising down-time and off-hire.

Client agreed after vessel received USCG and Port approval to proceed on the basis of expert's report with stated limitations. Vessel loaded cargo safely, preventing loss of hire and reputation.

Project of renewal of the windlass bushes was completed enroute to disport, within the stated and agreed time constraints at minimal expenses.
